Welcome to the Human Prototype blog, a space where the past and present converge to showcase the evolution of a life in progress. Inspired by my TEDx talk, "I am a Prototype," this blog is part of a broader journey of transformation through journaling, capturing the essence of living as a perpetual prototype. Each week, during 2024, I reviewed my archives from 2016, contrasting journal scans filled with drawings against the backdrop of my current experiences.

Here are some photos from Egypt: my colleagues, the workshop I led, the stuffed pigeons and the stray cats.
I remember this trip as being very wholehearted; my colleagues being the most welcoming I had experienced in a long time. A way to combine fun, heart and work. I miss those folks!
I also remember the beautiful chaos of traffic, with people hopping on to unofficial bus systems; and me thinking that my introverted self would never be able to get home from work with this system.

Now: August 19-25, 2024
A short week at work, followed by a weekend of camping and medicine ceremonies in Essex with very dear allies and friends.
Work seems to taste sweeter when it’s a four-day work week, especially when it’s followed by 10 days off. I think this should become the new norm!
Some highlights from the week include being selected for an in-person course from IDEO in London for “change makers,” having my LinkedIn profile roasted by AI (give it a try with yours here), a bit of yoga, a singing class, catching up with colleagues in the office, booking a ticket for an improvised musical, and a weekend full of awe and wonder.
Every now and then, I feel called to pull a card from my “Sacred Creators” oracle deck. On Thursday, I pulled Lead Your Metamorphosis:
“It’s time to leave the dark cocoon behind, to break out of your shell, and to show off those gorgeous wings you’ve been readying.
Many times in life, we choose the comfort of the warm cocoon over the freedom of something spectacular, and this cozy illusion of safety can lull us gently to sleep.
Choose the emerging you over the humdrum and expected today, and lead your metamorphosis with your inner beauty.
Who are you becoming today?”
It’s not the first time I’ve drawn this card, but I didn’t expect to see it again so soon. I thought that with the job change, I had already leaned into the metamorphosis. But I realize now that I still feel like my wings are clipped and that even bigger things are emerging. This card also aligns perfectly with the concept of the Human Prototype, so it’s no surprise it’s showing up in my field of frequencies.

During the weekend, I had the privilege of sharing the ceremonial space with about 30 people, witnessing the beauty and gifts of each individual. It was inspiring and has encouraged me to lean into and share my own gifts, to trust the flow of what is emerging.
I also brought my drum to the space, and we played together for most of Friday night. I thought I wouldn’t be able to hold a beat for long, yet there I was, drumming for hours, adapting the intensity and frequency as needed to help others move things from within to out.
A few insights from my journey:
• I struggled to let myself receive healing and let go. Why? Partly because there were so many people, and I didn’t want to take something away from someone else. And possibly because I felt the need to “stay strong” and “hold it together.” But on Saturday night, I couldn’t hold it in any longer and found allies to cry with.
• Seeing others express their individual gifts has encouraged me to do the same and explore where my intuition takes me—whether it’s starting a light language podcast or establishing local community events outside of ceremonies. I’m calling this “devotion to authentic self-expression.”
• I’m still committed to learning how to help people through shamanic practices. At one point during Friday night, I looked around and thought, “This is a lot of work, and it’s hard work. Do you really want to do this? Will you ever be capable?” For now, I’ve chosen to continue my learning journey, trusting that I will build up the skills and experience to a point where it won’t seem so overwhelming.
• I’ve always had mixed emotions about my love of being on stage. When I did my stand-up comedy showcase, it felt like home, but I didn’t pursue it further because I thought it was a self-centered activity, something to be ashamed of wanting. This weekend, I met someone who works in entertainment, and I asked for guidance. What he shared shifted my perspective: Yes, the ego shows up, but so what? If you’re aware of it, you can dial it up or down as needed. More importantly, performing is about communing with the audience, removing yourself from the equation so you can fully transmute into a character, a song, a movement, and create a communion with the audience. That idea resonates with me, and I’ll be contemplating it in the coming weeks as I assess if and how I may wish to “perform” moving forward. (I wonder how that self-limiting belief even took root in me…)
• Music has always played a big role in my life, from audio cassettes in the Walkman to CDs in the Discman, to mp3s in the iPod, and now Apple Music. I have a soundtrack for every era of my life. Right now, RY X has made a comeback. He’s been around since 2015, but a recent interview gave me a deeper understanding of why I feel so connected to his music. (I’ve linked the interview below.) I’ve even booked a ticket to his show in March 2025. He’s actually playing in my neighborhood! So, my insight is to reconnect with music whenever I feel disconnected from myself.
I’m still integrating all of this, and I’m sure more insights will come my way. To be continued.
Oh, and my app “Inner Pathways” was a big hit with the other participants! It was so lovely to hear their feedback and encouragement. Thinking about it now, I realize I downplayed my work a bit, saying things like, “You know, it’s super basic on the back-end, anyone could do it…” More insights coming…It’s never ending!?!
