Welcome to the Human Prototype blog, a space where the past and present converge to showcase the evolution of a life in progress. Inspired by my TEDx talk, "I am a Prototype," this blog is part of a broader journey of transformation through journaling, capturing the essence of living as a perpetual prototype. Each week, during 2024, I reviewed my archives from 2016, contrasting journal scans filled with drawings against the backdrop of my current experiences.

Another week in France back in 2016—what a wonderful time it was, filled with a vibrant mix of activities, flavors, and faces. It seems I was attempting to cram several months' worth of experiences into just a few days, including a trip to Disneyland Paris!
Reflecting on that action-packed week, I'm wondering how I might infuse some of that vigor into my current, somewhat monotonous life. Let’s brainstorm a bit...
Perhaps I could start by enjoying the champagne I've been storing in my fridge—maybe even make it a thrice-weekly treat like I did back then. Or I could occasionally indulge in a night out at a stand-up comedy or improv show, reconnecting with the lighter side of life (and maybe giving it a try myself). It might also be the perfect time to catch up with old friends here in London.
A long-overdue trip to the hairdresser certainly wouldn’t hurt, and working from a café, like I did that Sunday, could break the monotony of my usual routine (despite today's barrage of video calls making it slightly more complicated).
So, there's a lengthy list of inspired ideas—let's see if I manage to act on them.
I noted that I bought a new laptop during that visit—a 2015 MacBook Air, which I replaced only last year, after seven years of loyal service. Another notable memory from that trip was the unusually friendly hotel staff who greeted us at breakfast— a rarity in Paris that deserved a mention in my journal!
This week, as I reviewed that journal entry, I tried to recollect those memories. It proved more challenging than expected. I recall peculiar details, like the unfriendly demeanor of the staff at the laptop store. I remember trying on shoes (I still have them by the way!), and sharing ice cream with my mum and brother at Place des Vosges—the flavor from Amorino Gelato still lingers in my mind. Yet, I draw blanks on the raclette, the burger, the sushi, and almost everything about Disneyland—except for the iconic "It’s a Small World" ride.
It's fascinating, really, how I can summon these snippets of my life from eight years ago like little video clips on demand. It’s a kind of astonishing internal technology when you think about it.
